If you are a baby boomer or older, surely you will remember the good old
days. The days of doors left open at night for the cool air to come in. There
was no air conditioning...just fans. The cars that everyone was so proud to own,
if they could afford it, had no air conditioning, power windows, or cruise
control. Do you remember Elvis? Ask your teen...they will say, "Who?" Did you
have indoor plumbing? If so you were wealthy! Tin roofs with the rain beating
down on them. Toys were wooden and carved. No remote cars to play with. Very few
children had bicycles. Books were usually found only in wealthy homes or
libraries. Did you have electricity? A lot did not. Do you remember the days
when all the neighbors knew everyone's business--not from gossiping, but because
they were friends. Do you remember the good old Sabbath? Fried chicken every
Sunday, if you killed one that week. Do you remember when you could spend $50 in
groceries and it last a month for a family of four and you had a complete buggy
or two full? Try that one today!
Do you remember when everyone grew their own vegetables, tilled the land,
held the plow and reaped the harvest? Then spent days on days in the kitchen
with no air conditioning over a hot stove boiling Mason jars and canning the
goodies. Do you remember the first televisions? Ours had a screen about 14 x 14
and everything was black and white...all shows. Remember when the Ed Sullivan
show could or would only show Elvis, as they introduced him to the world, from
the waist up as his hip swiveling was "too provocative"? Remember the days when
the first African Americans, or the "colored", sat in Rock Hill, SC, at
McCrorey's Dime Store and demanded to be served. It was in the headlines for
days. I was in my junior year of high school at good old Rock Hill High when the
first black students..three of them, were allowed to attend. I was blessed to
know one of the girls to the point I befriended her. Her name was Doretha and
she lived on Bynum Street. I was raised in a non-racial home. I was
blessed...and one of the few whose dad ever said, "honey, remember, there is
never any one person on this earth that is better than you....but also remember
that you are no better than any other person on this earth."
Do you remember the days when you said "Yes, Mam" and "No, Sir."....I can
never forget it...if we did not put the mam or sir to anything, we usually
landed on the other side of the room where our minds were readjusted to remember
to use the proper words. Do you remember showing your parents respect? Ask your
child what the word means now. Remember, when one used the old Royal
typewriter...electric ones came out in the late 60's. Oh, how far we have
come...or have we?
Life has changed...and rapidly. There was so little progress from the 1700's
to the 1890's. In any and every respect just minute changes...really until the
Great Depression. Then the world woke up....and all the above came into play.
But then...just think...think on this...in the last 50 years alone...think of
the technology of the cars, the televisions, the movies, the theaters, the work
places, the machines used. No more wringer washing machines...Almost everyone
with the economy being "good" has all the new technological things.
Now we have reached the moon, Mars and many other places in the Universe. My
mom believed the first trip to the moon was staged in a showroom to scare
people. Twenty years ago, a computer filled a room...now it does not fill a
desk. With the internet, you can go places where in the past, only books could
take you. E-mail...may put the postal services out of business.
Why have I elaborated on all this? To show you that time is running faster
and faster and technology is abounding at a rate we cannot keep up with. Banks
are merging...and soon into one...the new World Economy. The micro chip to fit
on the hand or wrist is already being used. Food stamps are now on a card. Debit
cards are used with scanners...all leading to the day when people have the chip
implanted with all their lifes information on it and they can just scan their
arms to withdraw money from the bank. People beware. The time is near. Some
people will deny this...but technology is abundant. Time is slipping away for a
soon return of Jesus Christ. The tribulation, if it has not already started,
will begin shortly. Please read up on the Mark of the Beast. Please read the
books on the end times. Please read the Bible and it's many warnings..the time
is near.
No one can go to bed at night now without bolting doors and putting on the
security alarm. Crime and Violence are rampant. Drugs are truly part of most
people's life in one way or another. Women cannot go shopping with the fear of
being mugged, kidnapped and raped. Children are snatched away from parents in
stores...never to be heard from again. No one can be trusted.
The wars in the world are getting worse. The weather patterns have
changed...all according to scripture. Also the Bible warns children will turn
against their parents and parents against their own kin. This is all happening
now.
Look at the pictures above...relate to them...just stop and think of the
"Good Old Days"....a thing of the past.
